time for a better world is an edition of 100 towels that consists of an actualization of a found beach towel, originally produced for the year 2000 and the new millennium. The design differs from the original only by a slight transformation (adaptation?) of the visual, changing the second 0 of 2000 into a 2, thus creating 2020. The rest of the design, composition, typography and colors have been reproduced as faithfully as possible.
The production of the edition was developed in collaboration with Weberei Tannegg AG, the company that produced the original towel. Although Weberei Tannegg AG’s headquarters still exists, the production site has since been relocated from Switzerland to Austria for economic reasons. Over the last twenty years, the colors of the yarns have slightly changed and the software used to prepare the digital files for weaving has evolved, making exact reproduction impossible.
time for a better world is a reflection of the passing of time and a reaction to the many challenges shaking the world today; climatic, pandemic, social and political. time for a better world also questions the possible reproduction of history and hope. May the message of this towel be seen without sarcasm, irony and bitter thoughts, beyond beaches and swims, for the future to come.
